Nothing more serious than laughter.
It is perhaps because of this budget that humor has arisen as an aesthetic category and enjoyed within the visual arts of countless artists who have manifested themselves from humor and even oriented their work along this path. The painter Honoré Daumier is a typical case in the history of art but in our context full-scale humor is something vital. This is the basis of our rich humorous heritage in the most varied manifestations: theater, cinema, graphics and even in avant-garde plastic arts.
Heirs of this solid base and active participants are undoubtedly Alejandro Duran and Carlos Vázquez, who occasionally gather a considerable sample of their graphic production.
Nothing preconceived, Duran and Carlos Vazquez are presented as such. Wagers of graphic humor agree on the essence of this genre, but of course from very personal aesthetic positions: Durán, for his part, is generally based on the classic humorous vignette, using a presumed drawing and perfectly recognizable features with the Durán stamp; while in Carlos Vázquez we see a plastic preoccupation with the drawing worked internally, based on a measured scratch, in order to look for textual qualities and the contrast of planes.
In common these two young plastics, as expected, possess the freshness of a rich and profound art because they offer us a whole spectrum of content ranging from the most mediate joke sometimes dealing with intimate valuations, to the reflective social theme.
That is why this exhibition is presented as a refreshing humor.
