The figurative, the Cuban way played closely in social and mass aspects, picaresque humor and in some ways naive and morbid, leave their mark in these works made between 1994 and 1995.
"Crowds", I have named this show, since these works cover beyond a monothematic sense, standing rather in a variegated atmosphere and full of messages and color.
I hope you convey the best of yourself.
Carlos Vázquez
To encourage reflection, to immerse the viewer in deep meditations without avoiding the emergence of multiple smiles to their lips is undoubtedly the fundamental premise of "crowds", works sprouted from the hands of a young creator who decides to enter the complex world of art without knocking on the doors of the academy.
The Cuban social problematic and the man like protagonist character of the same one rise up like subject of this sample where Carlos uses with singular desenfado the oil, the acrylic and the pulp of paper. The human figure presents it in some cases intentionally shortened highlighting their somewhat deformed and geometric faces with a marked dose of expressionism, in others it represents tiny and suggestive with a careful craft, this joins the vividness of color and its dissimilar degradations, the work of the plans, the variegated composition, the imprint of primitive art, evidencing a formal exploration that points towards a conscious search for an original form of conceptual expression.
Carlos does not ignore that he still has many ways to go in this intricate world of art, but we are sure that he will know how to get ahead, meanwhile enjoy these refreshing crowds.
